RECONSTRUCTION

Reconstruccion.jpg

Breast reconstruction after a mastectomy (breast removal due to cancer) is one of the most important surgical procedures performed by Dr. Rodriguez-Balasquide, and is an integral part of the oncology patient recuperation plan. There are multiple materials and techniques, allowing the plastic surgeon to create breasts that are similar in shape, texture and size to the untouched breasts.

The purposes of a breast reconstruction are:

  • To create a natural-looking breast, including the nipple area

  • To eliminate the need for a prosthesis, allowing the patient to use clothes that would not be wearable without the reconstruction (bathing suits, cleavage, etc)

  • To fill the space created in the thorax, eliminating the deformity, restoring the body's natural shape, and thus improving the patients quality of life and general satisfaction with herself.
